Data Mastery is an independent publication and advisory practice focused on the intersection of Australian Government policy and technical delivery.
It exists because there’s a gap. Most content about AI and data governance in government is written by vendors with something to sell, consultants summarising frameworks they’ve never implemented, or policy teams who haven’t sat in a delivery team. The result is content that’s accurate at the policy level and useless at the implementation level.
Data Mastery is the other thing.
The view from inside the delivery
The analysis here comes from someone who works inside federal government agencies as a contractor — not advising from the outside. Someone who has held an active security clearance through Defence, Home Affairs, ACIC, and Services Australia engagements. Who has delivered data governance programs, stood up Agile delivery teams, navigated ASD Essential Eight implementations, and built AI systems on government infrastructure.
The technical foundation: a Master of Cyber Security Operations from UNSW Canberra, combined with over 15 years of federal government delivery experience across data architecture, digital transformation, and program management. TOGAF certified. SAFe certified. Cleared.
What you’ll find here
The content is direct, technically substantive, and government-specific. It covers what policies actually require in engineering terms, what governance frameworks look like when implemented not just designed, and what practitioners need to know that the policy documents don’t tell them.
No vendor relationships. No product to sell. No methodology to licence.
Topics covered
AI governance and responsible AI adoption · Data engineering and architecture · Cybersecurity and DevSecOps · Digital transformation delivery · Sovereign AI for Australian Government · PSPF, ISM and ASD Essential Eight in practice
